MISI's Summer 2021
Virtual Internship

Join Us this summer

MISI is excited to announce that we will again be offering a summer virtual internship experience for current rising high school juniors and seniors and students currently enrolled in an undergraduate college program. We will consider recent college graduates on a case-by-case basis.

The six-week program will run daily from June 28 through August 6 during the hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern to accommodate participants throughout the United States and territories.

U.S. citizenship is required for participation.

For the internship, you will need a computer with a functional webcam, audio, stable internet connection, and a web browser.

This summer’s program is designed to be an introduction into the world of cybersecurity and is perfect for those interested in exploring new topics, learning about possible careers, and gaining their first experiences with tools and techniques needed to solve technical challenges.

We will explore data science and research cyber policy. You will have access to virtual labs and learn to use frameworks and tools.

We are working hard with our partners to finalize the program which will continue in the MISI tradition of experiential learning about emerging topics and strong career mentorship. We will build a plan, but like all things in the cyber world, it can change because of world events.

Collaborative work will be in real-time and often unrecorded to foster innovation. Innovation involves a level of risk taking – and having sessions recorded often inhibits risk and full participation. Therefore, some sessions will be held in an off-the-record environment that operates under Chatham House rules. Interns are expected to attend, be engaged, and actively participate in sessions. The field of cybersecurity is not one to passively watch like a video; the more you interact, the more you will get out of the experience.

Space is limited and there are many students across the nation craving such an opportunity. Since last summer, MISI has hosted several successful virtual internship experiences. If you are self-motivated, willing to engage with your peers on virtual platforms, and eager to learn more about cybersecurity, you are well-suited for this intern experience. If you need in-person motivation and are not willing to open your camera and mic to join the discussion, then we recommend waiting for future opportunities.
